Oh, hai update.bml. Looks like I remembered my password.

What started here in 2003 has somehow (?!?!) ended up with this:

Holy shit, huh? Don't ever say that nothing came out of LJ besides memcached and a lot of unholy Harry Potter fic. Love you, wayitgoes!!!

Thought Crimes [May. 30th, 2007|05:45 pm]
[Current Mood |defeated]

I was going to post a pointless commentary on the latest LJ-bows-to-total-idiot-special-interest dustup, but then I realized that I might have to say illegal words, and since that might result in all kinds of unpleasantness for me, I guess there's no purpose at all left in writing anything here.

Because LiveJournal's interests list serves as a search function, and because listing an interest enables other people also interested in a similar topic to gather and/or congregate, we have been advised that listing an interest in an illegal activity must be viewed as using LiveJournal to solicit that illegal activity.

Our legal counsel advises us that it would increase LiveJournal's liability if we were to allow your journal to be unsuspended for you to delete the illegal interests from your profile. This is because if someone were to remove the illegal interests from his or her profile, but was in fact using LiveJournal to coordinate, solicit, or participate in illegal activity, LiveJournal would most likely be considered to have foreknowledge of that activity and thus become liable.

Apparently nobody in this society has bothered to read even Orwell The Constitution Carlin? anything at all, and nobody who does have half a clue has the bal...(oops, se... VULGAR reference and a minor might be looking) courage to send these fearmongering bottom-feeders back into their holes.

I give up on LiveJournal.

arrrrrrrrr [May. 25th, 2007|11:26 am]
Saw Pirates 3 last night.

I will confess to loving those movies beyond all reasonable expectations.

The critics, predictably, hated it.

How dare someone make a cheezy special effects vehicle out of such a classic literary treasure as a.....Disneyland ride?!?!? Exactly what else did they expect here?

I immediately disregard any review of anything that takes the "OMG SO COMPLICATED YOU WILL BE CONFUSED" tack. If you're too fucking stupid to understand a Disney movie designed exactly to appeal to every demographic, you probably shouldn't be allowed to mix with the public in a movie theater. Furthermore, the storyline here is far, far more comprenensible and creative than the plodding, out-of-thin-air "now that you have passed the thirteenth test of Glahbnskmard, we must move quickly to Zzjkisdngfu. I fear dark times are ahead!" shit in Lord of the Rings, which the same critics all fell over eachother to gush about.

Dear Technical Job Candidates,

Here are some reasons for having a three-to-seven(!) page résumé:
- You are an established, recognized expert in your field.
- You have an extensive, broad and distinguised academic record.
- Your skillset is so wide and varied that it could not possibly be explained in one page.
- You are applying for a position in academia.
- You are an idiot. You believe that greater detail about your lack of qualifications for this job will make me hire you and not immediately reject you for the mindnumblingly boring historical essay on Strostrup.

Additionally, if you list a previous job as "Foo - Microsoft Corporation - Redmond, Washington," but were there for exactly a year and list a bunch of monkey-ass tasks ("Created A Tool For Evaluating Scripts To Modifity Test Harnesses For Internal QA Applications"), I WILL FIGURE OUT YOU WERE A VOLT CONTRACTOR and immediately shred your application because you are not just an idiot, but a deceitful idiot. This is Seattle. We know how Microsoft works.

The asshole who has heard the same BS college recruiting advice as you (and doesn't buy it).

It's 2007. Why is it impossible to post a picture from my stupid fucking cellphone to this website without putting a lame Yahoo product in the middle (which itself results in about 40% success)?

(This is a rhetorical question. I know the answer: malfeasance/overzealous idiotproofing on Sprint's part and lack of giving a shit on LJ's.)

Is this better on Vox?

Should I give up and go plant trees for Weyerhaeuser?

I'm here in the capital of Canada for a work thing involving the U.S. Government. No, this industry does not make any sense, why do you ask?

Ottawa is nice, in a Spokane/Boise sort of way (although this is Canada, so I guess it'd be Spokane without the ghetto influence). I haven't been Downtown or anything yet, so further updates are possible.

It's sort of weird being in a Real Office - feels like I'm back at WY (business casual + cubicle + roving coffee-carriers + amazing sheer volume of ways companies waste money). I'm very possibly in the same building as mendel at the moment. I think his company owns this office park thing.

Stayed up way too late and got up way too early. Fucking time zones.

Re: This
This is not him. These videos do not help us understand him. They distort him. He was meek. He was quiet. This is a PR tape of him trying to turn himself into a Quentin Tarantino character...
